How Search Engines Drive Online and Offline Commerce

Search Engine and Online and Offline Shopping
Search engines play a major role in driving both online and offline sales in modern days. People use search engines for various needs. Product research and buying it online and offline is most popular among web surfers. US retail e-commerce sales for the 3rd quarter of 2011 was US$ 48.2 billion, an increase of 2% from the 2nd quarter of 2011 (according to Census Bureau of US). Even though the US is going through a multi-year recession, it has no impact on online sales.

The relation between search engines and offline sales is getting deeper and deeper with passing days. Due to the quality service by the search engines, people are doing their research about products before buying them offline. Higher percentage of informational queries are getting converted in to transactional queries with the developments of search engines.

How search engines boost offline commerce

1. Retail marketing farm RevTrax has discovered that – with every $1 spent on online advertising converts an offline sale of $6.

2. Approximately 85% of people do a research about a product or service online before making a purchase.

3. 75% of people use search engines to find local business information compared to 42 % who use newspapers.

Search engines will continue to play a major role, driving online and offline commerce / sales in coming days with penetration of internet in to smaller cities and villages.
