Alt Attribute and Image File Name – Basic SEO Concept

Alt attribute and Image file for SEODo you use some images on your blog post or web pages to enhance the visual appeal and help your readers easily understand the content matter ?
Everybody do. And, I do a lot. I am going to tell you the correct use of alt attribute or alt text and image file name to augment the on-page SEO.

Search engines are image blind. They can’t see the image directly. There 2 factors provide the required data to search engines to interpret the image properly, there by augmenting the on-page SEO for higher ranking.

1. Alt attribute or alt text for image seo

The HTML tag for image where you specify an alternative attribute is known as alt attribute or alt text. Alt attribute is the place where you should provide the best possible information about the image by using targeted keywords, which in turn, should support the page content optimally to boost the on-page search engine optimization.

Example: Image of Demi Lovato
< img alt =“ Demi Lovato Photo Alt Text ”   Src = “ http://seohour.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Demi-Lovato-Alt-Text-SEO.png ” >
Important: Always use the quote, if you have spaces in between the texts (e.g. “ Demi Lovato Alt Text SEO ”). Without quote there is no value for the alt text words except the first  one (Demi).

2. Correct file name for image seo

Search engines always try to collect information about the image from the image file name.
If your image file name complements your page content then it helps for higher search engine ranking. Do not put number or custom characters in the file name. For example: Demi99??$%?#.png has no meaning to the search engines. Apart from this, you are loosing an opportunity to include keyword rich text about your content.
  • The alt attribute and file name should represent the actual content of the image without exaggerating the related keywords in the content, even though they are related to the page.
  • Finally, your image should be highly relevant to the page content, so that using correct alt attribute and image file name help your on-page seo for better ranking.
