Domain Age and Search Engine Ranking – Review
So, you are thinking about your domain age and a bit worried about what to do, so that your web page ranks higher in SERP( Search Engine Results Page ).
Now, tell me ‘ What domain age you are talking about ? ‘. You should know that, there are 2 types of ‘Domain Age ‘ such that 1.Present domain age and 2.Future domain age
Present domain age means – the time period since Google has first crawled your web page till today ( if your domain is still active ).
Future domain age means – the time period from today till the expiration of your registered domain in future.
And, the good news for website/blog owners who have registered their domain name recently is that search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing give equal importance or score to Present and Future Domain age while ranking a website on SERPs.
Lets ask one question to yourself, Which Obama do you trust ? The one, who is 18 yrs old, smokes 20 cigarettes a day, freaks with numerous girls OR the one, 50 yrs old, with a calm & composed mind, experienced and the personality which the World admires ? Definitely your answer will be the Older Obama.
Just like this, Google also gives more importance to older domains who produce quality contents throughout life time with a good number of relevant incoming-links from reputed websites compared to a new domain with low quality contents with very less incoming links or irrelevant incoming links.
But, if the domain name is young( 6-8 months old ) but producing original and unique contents regularly with few good quality relevant incoming links and registered for next 5 to 10 yrs then Google trust and take care to rank it higher on SERPs. Here you can think of teen age sensation Justin Biber, although he is young, the whole World admires him for his continuous good work in the field of music and he is also sending a signal to music lovers that in future also he will continue his good works.
Google doesn’t trust a 5 yrs old domain which is going to expire in next 2 months. In fact, Google like a domain which is 6 months old producing unique contents and registered for next 5 to 10 yrs. In the later case the domain is sending a signal that it is producing good contents which are original and unique and will continue its good work for next 5 to 10 yrs.
